A lot of people say that punk is dead. Punk is a counterculture. All countercultures have leaders and esstablished fashions and rules but it doesn’t mean that it’s over after the leaders move on. Punk is not dead, one of the best thing about it is that it is able to adapt to the times. Take Disco. Disco is dead, Disco didn’t evolve, it is a style of music specific to a decade, but if you listen to The Dead Kennedys, The Dead Kennedys didn’t like Reagan, so they worte a bunch of songs about why they hated Reagen, they were reflected so punk rock evolved. But ABBA was still singing about the same things. The way punk rock sounds is a direct reflection of the times. It has changed and mutated and it includes everyone from straight edge to skinheads. I would aslo like to add that a lot of the people that say that punk is dead tend to be old. Maybe it’s dead for them, but you still have kids that Xerox show flyers and wear their Cro-Mag patches with pride.
